Race and Ethnicity Paper Essay

I was brought up in China. I would start thinking clearly †relate to the Chinese individuals. My underlying foundations permit me to be delegated Asian. Mandarin and Cantonese are dialects I have figured out how to talk and read. These dialects additionally help to recognize me as Chinese. What is race? Race characterizes what our identity is. We take a gander at individuals and encounters through race and culture. Both of my folks are thoughtful in characters. They are mild-mannered in light of the fact that they once lived under the feelings of trepidation of Communism. They showed me not to talk unseemly things to others. This kept a lot of difficulty from happening. I have been instructed by the spoken and implicit methods of my folks and educators to use my race as the social focal point through which I can esteem individuals and encounters. My folks formed me at an early stage life to not stand in opposition to Chinese Politics. They instructed me that Chinese assumes a job in my social recognizable proof. Through ages of racial displaying, my folks passed on these severe constraints. What make me Chinese? What are the attribute of a Chinese individual? I truly don’t know. Other distinguishing me as a Chinese by my skin shading, hair, eyes, stature, other appearance highlights, and the language I talk, and where I originate from. I’m a peaceful individual in school, and when I have questions or I need assistance regarding my matters, I waver to lift my hand. Since my first year I have been this way. I’m spoke to as a compulsive worker Chinese. I turn in each task and on schedule, hence, they recognized me as an Asian, due to the generalizations put on Asians my conduct and mentality added to people’s thinking. My ethnic distinguishing proof presented me to a social conflict. For instance, we had a basic reasoning class a year ago, for day camp. We read an article in our group, some portion of the section portrayed a Chinese individual taking an example food. He loved it since it was free. In this way, the remainder of the class believed Chinese individuals to be eager. Individuals consistently judge us by our discussions, activities and jokes. We don't need such a race awareness so as to know what our identity is. It is difficult to recognize one’s self. It shouldn’t be founded on where you were conceived, where you originate from or the shade of your skin. I don’t need to be a Chinese nor some other ethnic foundation. In the event that an American brought forth her posterity in China, and her child was raised there they may confront indistinguishable social predispositions from I have. The infant would most likely speak Chinese, use chopsticks, and dress like a Chinese individual, however that doesn't make them Chinese. Prejudice will never end except if the word race isn't utilized any more. We should quit isolating Chinese, American, and Mexican gatherings.

Myths About Becoming a Professional Model

Myths About Becoming a Professional Model An amateur may think that everything smooth out there. Being a model, what’s all the fuss about? But, when the lights turn off, things may not be as glamorous as they seem. You know what they say, there’s more to it than it meets the eyes, and that definitely makes sense here. How difficult is to become a professional model? Is being pretty all that matters or there are other aspects equally or even more important than beauty? Is it a stressful job? There are just some of the burning questions every young lady or a gentleman with the aspiration to become a model has in mind.Sometimes the answer is rather simple and more than obvious. However, there are many situations where prejudices and myths have a significant impact. Those are mainly some ideas that those who are not familiar with the facts create and distribute. They have some beliefs that things work a certain way. That’s why we investigated a bit, so to discover what’s out there in that big fascinating world of fashion stars. Without further ado, here are MODELING MYTHS DEBUNKEDThe best way to discover the true meaning of this tempting profession is to get down to resolving all the myths that can be heard frequently. There are indeed many of them, and they are the main „guilty ones“ for the wrong picture of how things really are.1. All models are tall.Absolutely not! Since the desire to become a model starts as early as in childhood, the first that adults usually say is „Wait till you grow up!“ If you happen to grow up to some average level, or even slightly below that- people desperately try to ruin your aspirations by telling you „No way!“.The most important here is that you have a wider perspective of observing things. If you want to be a catwalk model, okay, in that case, there are a certain height and weight requirements that a person has to fulfill. But this is not the only option. There are various other fields, for example, clothes or magazine modeling, commercial or photo shoot modeling and many more.Who says you cannot be some of these?Kate Moss or Aaron Frew are living proofs that height has absolutely no importance for becoming a big name in this industry.2.    Models are skinny.Once again, absolutely not!Even though the first picture that may come to your mind is a tall and slim person, that’s just because your mind somehow naturally wants to picture things that way.But being a bag of bones is not the only „wanted“ form in the industry. The best possible example to debunk this illusion would be Marylin Monroe. She had neither of these two „requirements“, but quite the opposite, she was short and curvaceous! And the best of all- she was loved and envied for the way she looked.Thats because she had amazing energy and passion that made her look seductive and desirable. After all, let us not forget that there’s a category „plus size“.As a matter of fact, that voluptuous form is becoming more popular, as it reflects some natural and vivacious picture of a real model, not a skinny photoshop creation.3.  All models are young.Imagine yourself at the age of 19 and just started thinking about a modeling career. All you can see are so many successful teenagers at the age of 14/15 becoming superstars. What else to do but start thinking about the retirement? And you havent even given it a try? This is the most common way to discourage a young person, by saying that he/she is already too old.Okay, there are some modeling agencies whose focus may be teenagers, but there are plenty of others who are looking for candidates of all ages.Even high fashion is in demand for not so young models, as certain collections are actually made for mature ladies/gents to wear them. Moreover, there are many other fields such as health care, pharmaceuticals, and many more. So, do a little research and you will easily find the branch which is in demand for grown-up models.4.  Every model needs professional photos.Thats nice but not every newbie can afford it.Hiring a professional photographer is rather costly for someone who is just starting the career or only thinking about giving it a try.All you need are several simple but effective snapshots which will represent you at your best. These shots should give agents into whether you have the necessary potential to become a model, either fashion or commercial. You know how people say „The camera loves me!“ That’s what we are aiming at.Sometimes the agency is willing to pay for the first shoot if the model looks promising, but sometimes its up to a candidate to invest. It’s very important that you are aware of your capabilities and capacities.Be objective to yourself. So, the portfolio you are going to submit has to look professional but doesnt have to be done by a pro.5.  The agency will pay for everything if they like me.Okay, maybe, but if you are one in a million lucky enough to look so extraordinary and unusual, that agencies believe you will bring them millions in a single day.Its inter esting how myths are either too discouraging or unrealistically encouraging, always skipping that phase in the middle.Thats actually the stage where all truths are hiding.Even though there’s a lot of hype and misinformation, still try to be real. If you are of average look, but still believe that you have the needed potential, you have good chances that some agency becomes interested in you.But that definitely doesnt mean they will spend a fortune on you.So, the best would be to be well-informed on all the additional costs that are common for the beginners.6. All models have to go on a diet.O yeah, you have to starve yourself, until you reach the limits where you could live with no food intake at all.Don’t let prejudices fool you!As you are probably aware, this profession is highly demanding. There are no working hours, and theres lots of sitting and standing.Sometimes you have to spend hours under the bright spotlights in the very same pose for hours and hours. And could a body w ithstand that without proper nutrition?Of course not! There are no strict diets, so a well-balanced and above all healthy nutrition is essential.Even the strongest body can give in during those exhausting sessions, which is why one needs to eat well.Just act as you normally would, that’s the best piece of advice!7.  Plus size models can eat whatever they want. One may imagine being a model falling to this category is a dream came true. You are a model but can eat whatever you want because the job requires you to do so.Well „the one“ with such ideas is definitely the one with no idea how things work at all.For them, things may be even harder than with some thinner models. The goal is to keep the proper shape, without becoming obese.Again, that means the nutrition has to be well-balanced.After all, those models are hired for the precise measurements the possess, adding or subtracting them may ruin the figure.8.  A pretty face is everything. You see a model on TV or in a magazine and they all look so darn perfect-eyes and lips so full, eyebrows and nose with no faults, high cheekbones. As if a Greek God or Goddes is right before your eyes. If you dont look the same, there’s nothing to look for in the industry!Hey, have you heard of photoshop, makeup, and numerous useful tools? „Perfect face“ is just an illusion, something that’s widely spread as the only acceptable for one who wants to be a model. However, there are many successful stars who are into the limelights precisely for some tiny flaws they have such as moles, eyes apart, high forehead and many other details.Think of them as some trademarks.Something that makes you specific and unique, something that you could be recognized for.Anything can become a trend and look glamorous and enviable if the industry decides so.As we said, those tools can come as handy as well.9.  Modeling is a glamorous profession. If you take the final product to measure things, then, yeah, its all about glamour. But if you try to look beneath the surface, you will see many other things. Its actually a hard job, the one which requires dedication and a strong will over years and years. Sometimes it is more demanding mentally than physically. In order to achieve the final stage look so breath-taking, a model has to spend countless hours covered in a heavy-duty make-up.And thats just one aspect!Let us not forget the hairstyle, as well as constant prodding and poking with needless as they are trying to determine the perfect size of the outfit for you.And when all thats done, it’s actually only the beginning, because from that moment on you have to look gorgeous and conquer the world. You must admit that when the moment comes, glamour is perhaps the last thing that comes to your mind.10.  Modeling brings tons of cash right away.Lets put things this way- you have just finished faculty or whatsoever, and someone offers you the highest paid position in the richest company in the world?Chances are like one in a bill ion. Hard work and lots of effort need to be put.One usually starts with an average salary, and as time goes by, the amount of money may increase, of course, if well-deserved.The very same logic goes for modeling.Even though you may get the impression that they have so much money that they dont know what to do with it.They may get extravagant designer clothes as compensation for some photoshoot sessions. But, that won’t pay bills, rent or food, after all. Even the best of them have hard times sometimes.11.  Models always keep all the clothes they get.How about a sneak peek into any model’s closet? Yeah, one simply doesnt know what to do with so many Vera Wang, Gucci, Prada, and whatnot.Perhaps, if you happen to be in any model’s dream.Things are way different in reality. As soon as the presentation is over, the shoes and clothes are packed off, and the model gets to keep something old, damaged or something they dont even like at all.Only the names who already mean something in t he industry receive gifts from time to time. That way designers keep the good publicity for their brand.12.  Models only have beauty, no brains required.O yeah, they are nothing else but porcelain dolls. What you do is place them in lovely surroundings, and they remain silent and beauty forever.Being a model requires much more than being a generic beauty without personality. They are all very different, from those who are indeed just party girls to those who are doctors, businesswomen, moms, grand moms and similar. It often takes that unique energy which matters above all.And of course that it is important that they are smart enough to be capable of having a normal conversation. There are so many interviews, TV shows where they will be guests, therefore they have to have some communication skills and brains.13.  Models are all about addictions and disorders. All the professions similar to this one have numerous pros and cons.If you take a look at the things from the darker side, you wil l see anorexia, bulimia, drug intake and numerous other bad aspects of this glamorous vocation. But dont look at the things all black or white, because they definitely arent. There are some models which simply cannot keep up with that demanding tempo, and that results in bad eating habits or drug addiction. On the other hand, when you spot a model with fine skin and healthy look, and that certainly reflects positive living habits.Numerous myths out there and now that they are finally revealed, its all so different. As a matter of fact, it seems that all we used to know about modeling is actually wrong.Keep in mind that each and every model is a story for itself, and there are many factors which will have a significant impact over ones personality and behavior. But, do know that its a demanding vocation and not everybody can sustain all the pressure that comes with it. We could say that only the strongest ones survive. WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A SUCCESSFUL PROFESSIONAL MODELNow that you ha ve all the myths busted, do you still have the aspirations to become a model? If the answer is positive, then head on with these useful bits of advice we prepared here. They are equally essential as the myths we described.1.  Love the job strongly and devotedly. If the words „It’s showtime!“ sound like magic to you, if you feel thrilled and excited upon appearing before the audience if you have no fear when the camera is on-congratulations!You have the necessary initial motivation that plays an important role when deciding whether this profession is suitable for you.Knowing all the stress that comes along, but still be ready to deal with it and become a model is a huge thing.2.  Work, work, workand it seems there’s no end to it.If you ask any superstar for an honest opinion, he/she will tell you that its similar to working in a mine. This means equally exhausting. It takes 16 hours or more, be it day or night, to be active. Sometimes you will find yourself running here and there in order to get the job, but thats the way things work.Particularly if you are a newbie. And even after all that rush, you still need to look fresh and charming. If you think youre strong enough to handle that, then give it a try.3.  Define yourself. The way you project yourself will reflect on the photos. Believe it or not, even if you feel slightly insecure, the very feeling will be visible in the photos that were just taken.Thats why you need to give your best to pull out all the charisma, positive energy, charm, sexiness and other powerful ingredients which will leave photographers and the audience speechless and breathless.Besides all the mentioned aspects, being photogenic is also very important, as the one will be in front of the camera.Just to make one thing clear, its not about being „ideal“, but about being yourself. After all, what is the definition of „being ideal“?Ask five designers and you will get ten different answers.Regardless of age, height, facial features, all that matters is that the model is a self-confident one.The one who strongly embraces all the virtues and flaws about her/himself.4. Be intelligent.Think of this profession as running a company. You cannot be a successful name if there are no brains in you.Perhaps you can, but that will last for a short period of time. No-one says that all the models have to be philosophers or super smart scientists, but having good communicational skills and brightness is very important.Knowing how to survive in a big world of sharks requires intelligence after all. Otherwise, you will get eaten alive.5.  Be extrovert.Being a model means constant meeting with new people, experiencing a new situation, so if one is shy, that will bring no good at all.The first time is always the hardest, but as soon as you break the ice, things will go smoother and smoother with each new situation and challenge. It’s also a matter of practice and experience, but having the guts, in the beginning, is also essenti al.6.  Make sure self-esteem is always around. This could be a tricky one. We could tell you that its about being an egomaniac occasionally, but we risk the wrong deductions that may come from your side. It’s not about being high up in the sky, but using this as a motivation when things seem to difficult to handle.Use it to pick yourself up when times are hard, thats what we mean. If you know yourself, this one will be an additional secret weapon to help you survive in this crowded industry.7.  Let the ambitions motivate you.Even though there are examples where a person instantly became an acknowledged and successful name in the business, those are the exceptions.Similar to hard-working, ambitions are the ones to lead you and inspire you to give the best of yourself.Or even more than that, if the situation requires so. This is the journey with numerous setbacks on the way, and is determined to succeed is what helps overcome those.8.  Organization is everything.Unless you establish this positive habit on time, you will end up in millions of duties to fulfill not knowing where to start from. And its not only meetings and sessions we are aiming at, but finances and your body above all.As we said, this profession is highly demanding and often very exhausting, but that should come as a motivation for you to maintain your body and health in a good shape.9.  Be in control. We have described and busted the myths regarding addiction and food disorders. If you want to avoid those, you need to have strong control over your health and emotions.Make sure all the vital aspects are well-maintained. Moreover, find some activity which relaxes you and takes time to enjoy it. Let that be your quiet refuge from all the fuss. That way you will acquire all the necessary strength for any upcoming situation. When the lights turn off, you are just a vulnerable human being like all of us, and knowing how to grow your strength is a great virtue.10.  Self-starter.In the very beginning, you are the one in charge of your own career and success.Thats why being well organized and determined are must-haves.Start from the professional aspects of your life, then health and your habits in general.Try to make a list of all the positive and negative elements that are part of you.Learn how to grow good ones and how to eliminate the bad ones. Now that you have this ultimate guide on how to become a successful professional model, the next step is introspective. Go step by step and see if you have all of these qualities that are an integral part of being a model.Be prepared for anything and everything, and check things from time to time.Being objective to yourself is definitely one of the hardest things about this profession.Whoever is able to do so, success is closer than you can imagine. FINAL THOUGHTS ON MODELINGAs you could see, this is definitely a multi-layered profession with numerous advantages and disadvantages. One needs to be knowledgable on them if he/she wants to enter t he industry and fulfill the dreams instead of letting them become the worst nightmare. We hope that our guide on myths helped you solve numerous doubts and prejudices that inevitably come with this vocation. As you could see, practically every thought and belief that is widely spread about being a model is wrong. If you dont look things beneath the surface, you will end up deceived by those wrong facts. That was, after all, the purpose of our debusting, to help people get a clear insight into how things in the industry work. Moreover, we gave you the „recipe“ with all the necessary ingredients to follow if you are really serious about entering the modeling industry.Be reasonable and make sure all of these elements work. The logic goes like this: if a single part is broken or damaged, the whole machine will malfunction. Looking things this way significantly helped when determining the right approach. Now that you know all the myths about becoming a professional model and the facts can r eally bring you to the starts, what is left is to say good luck! It’s not an easy road, no one said it will be, but it’s worth the shot!

The Best Experience of My Life Free Essays

One of my favorite family traditions is summer vacation. Every summer without fail we go on vacation, and we stay there for at least a week. For the past five years we have been going to Disney World with our family that lives in Los Angeles. We will write a custom essay sample on The Best Experience of My Life or any similar topic only for you Order Now He is my cousin Ricardo, he lives with his wife and his 1-yearold daughter. I like them because they’re nice, cool and funny. It has turned into a tradition and we all love to be together and have a good time. Every year when we go they greet us in such a way they make you feel like home. Once we’re there and our vacation starts we just forget about everything and relax for a week. We have been going on vacation with our cousins for so long, for a very good reason. It is because everyone gets along. My mom and dad, Ricardo and his wife Mari have a very good relationship. Ricardo my cousin, who is 30, is my cousin and my friend and we get along great. My sister Susan, who is 25, and Mari, who is 27, also get along very well. This works out great because we are all old enough to go out and do our own thing without getting the parents too much involved. Since most of the fun things to do are located right near the hotels we stay at any random hotel. We rarely need to ask them for a ride anywhere, so everyone goes their way and it turns into a great vacation for all of us. We have been going to Disney World together for as long as I can remember. We know the place inside and out. Where all the best rides are, which park is the best. It even got so bad that we knew what time the lines for each ride was shortest. Disney World always comes out with some kind of a new ride or show each year . All the characters are the same but they’re always happy and cheering for the little kids. So it doesn’t gets boring, that is what mostly keep us continuing coming back for more year after year. We headed for the food court because we were all very hungry. All I had eaten in the entire day was water a sandwich and a piece of gum . It was getting late and we hurried because we planned to go to the rides last. When we arrived at the restaurant me and my sister ordered a gigantic hamburger, my mom and dad fish, and my cousin and his wife chicken. When we finish we were all very satisfied and we headed for a little fun. We saw some lights in the far end and we followed them. We arrived at a show it was called the electrical parade and it was really cool. So we went down there last summer and it was a big vacation for all of us. I know it was more of an children’s vacation which but it was very fun and we all loved. In my opinion we are a little too old for Disney World but it was my favorite vacation. My favorite part was when we went to the rides and got on a rollercoaster. My sister tried not to vomit but I guess she had a weak stomach and vomited all over my dad. Unfortunately for my dad, he was on the same cart and he vomited too. When it all was over and we were in a hotel we joked about the vomit and laughed really hard. We shouldn’t had eaten right before going into the rollercoaster. How to cite The Best Experience of My Life, Papers

This overseas sales growth not only appears in the developing countries, but more in developed countries in Europe and America. The sales volume In European market was up to 3. 4 billion dollars in 2010, which was 17% higher than that of 2009. The high-tech product, such as mobile 3G has made its way into France, Germany, Span, Italy and Norway etc. It holds over 30% of the newly Increased market share. 4G products has also been developed and introduced to many international operators. Huawei (HW for short) has been Intruding Into the so-called Impenetrable European telecommunication market with unthinkable power. There are lots of top international operators in Europe: German Telecommunication DT (TOP3), Spanish telecommunication Telefonica (TOPS), Vodafone OP6, French Telecommunication (TOP8, Italian Telecommunication TI (TOP9) etc. The European market is one of the best world high- techmarket. It is a highly- competitive market. Meanwhile, he world best telecommunication equipment suppliers are also In Europe: German Siemens. Swedish Ericson, the No. l In telecommunication, Finnish Nokia, big terminal device supplier. .. all of them are the leading roles in telecommunication industry. To survive in this highly competitive market Is a miracle, but HW not only survives, It also thrives and becomes prosperous. How did HW make this happen is the focus of this paper. l. Theoretical and methodological basis 1. 1 The foundation of HWs success in European market The foundation of HWs success in European market: set up long-term strategic goals and invest in it persistently. Back to 1995, even before HW entering the international market, the first principle in Huawei Basic Law manifest its core value: The pursuit of HW Is to realize customers dreams In telecommunication, meanwhile, with bit by bit but persistent effort , HW is going to become a leading enterprise in the world market. We can see the persistence and dedication from the enterprise leader Ren Zheng Fei. With this persistence and dedication, HW began its tryout in Hongkong in 1995, and then roughly put its first step in overseas market by a 25- dollar contract In Russia. However, with the market development In Asia, Africa and Latin America, HW started to Intrude into Europe market which is entrenched by any name-brand equipment supplier and later, HW knocked into American market and finally achieve its marketing globalization. However, when people were mesmerlzea Dy tne conslstent growtn on HWs Tlnanclal repo tney 010 not notlce the costly investment in the overseas market (human resource, physical resource and financial resource) in the past 15 years, only from 1999 to 2006, HW invested billions of money in the European market but it barely saw any pay back until 2006. Enterprise cannot fght without any preparation. Food and fodder should go before troops and horses You can not survive the harsh winter without eavy cotton-padded clothes. Instead of being only slogans, these mental and financial preparation help HW insist on its big investment in the European market despite of the huge deficit for many years. Financial support from other profitable market, instant response in technology and products, all of these keep encouraging HW stuff in Europe to dedicate them to work on the European market and finally fought its way into the European telecommunication market. If HW looked for payback soon after its investment in European market, or if it reduced or even give up its investment only after two or three years of losing money, there is no way or HW to succeed in Europe. Moreover, If HW is not financially strong enough to survive in this long, costly battle, it is impossible to win either. HW might end up as a second-class device supplier in the current European market. 1. 2. Research Method This paper combines he first-hand investigation and the second-hand material. The writer first consults different resources to collect relevant materials. Then, interview, observation has been adopted to get first-hand material so as to further study HWs performance in Europe. All the materials systematically have been analyzed. Finally, the writer tries to make a conclusion about the HWs marketing strategy in Europe to see whether it might benefit other Chinese international enterprises. II. HW marketing focuses during its initial period in European market. Hw in 2001, hough a success in Chinese market, could only be regarded as a student in European market then. The European market was one level higher than the market possessed by HW, no matter on internet quality, operator business capacity or end user requirement. Furthermore, most of its competitors had already worked with the operators for decades or even more than a hundred years, they have deep understanding about these operators. With marketing 4p theory, we choose four factors to make analysis by radar map. These four factors are: price, technology, service (core component of HWs products) and brand (the core component of promotion). Most products in HW are industrial products, which are sold to the operators directly, so Just like the distribution channel of other device suppliers; this kind of distribution is flat and direct. Therefore, the strategy of channel construction is almost the same, so it is not necessary to study it here in detail. From figure 1, it is lear that the advantage of HWs products lies on its price and service when HW first started its business in Europe. But the brand popularity and the technology fell behind its competitors.

animal cruelty Essays

animal cruelty Essays animal cruelty Essay animal cruelty Essay animal cruelty BY bibi345 Every year 1 billion animals are slaughtered by the leather industry, 100 million animals die in experiments and 4 million cats and dogs are euthanized. Hello everyone and Mr. Dion, today Im going to talk to you about Animal cruelty. When we hear the words Animal Cruelty, we immediately think of serious and physical harm that someone is doing to an animal right? But really, animal cruelty isnt Just physical harm. It generally falls into one of three categories: neglect, intentional or sexual abuse. Neglect is the failure to provide water, food, shelter and/or necessary care. Example: starvation; dehydration Intentional cruelty is involving physical harm to an animal or taking some form of action and sexual abuse is when the animal is being sexually molested by a human being. Okay, now that we saw the three types of animal cruelty, who here knows a bit about experimental animals? Experimental animal is when an animal is being tested for a variety of products, drugs or vaccines. In certain countries, the law specifies that a new drug has to be essentially tested on t least two different species of live mammal. Almost every medication in the market has been tested on animals. Animals have been used in the development of anesthetics to prevent human suffering during surgery! Mice and rats are forced to inhale toxic fumes, dogs are force-fed pesticides, and rabbits have corrosive chemicals rubbed onto their skin and eyes. Many of these tests are not even required by law. Over 100 million of them die in experiments and tests every year. Scientists estimate that 100 species go extinct every day! Thats about one species every 15 minutes. Now more and more people check their products before buying them to make sure they werent tested on animals first. I really love elephants. I think theyre so adorable and when I was doing my research, I found out that elephants who perform in circuses are often kept in chains for as long as 23 hours a day from the time they are babies. I personally think thats Just wrong. Former circus employees have reported seeing them beaten, whipped, poked with sharp objects and even burned to force them to learn their routines! Now all they can do is sit and wait in fear of the next terrifying and painful thing that will be performed on them. Now lets talk about fur coats. A fur coat is pretty cool and trendy hen? Its coming back to style and it looks really sophisticated. Well, to make one fox-fur coat it takes about eighteen red foxes. So next time you are buying one, make sure it isnt real fur. I couldnt believe it when I read that tens of thousands of wild and domesticated horses from the United States are cruelly slaughtered every year to be used for horse eat in Europe and Asia. Since the last horse slaughter plants in the U. S. were closed in 2007, thousands of horses have been shipped to Canada and Mexico for slaughter. If you ever think someone is hurting an animal please call the Ontario SPCA investigators at 1-888-0nt-SPCA. Here is how to recognize animal cruelty. Look for these common signs Wounds on the body. Extremely thin. Limping. Animals left in a car on a hot or cold day for long hours. Abandonment Swellings Thank you for listening !

How to Manage Invasive Insects in Firewood

How to Manage Invasive Insects in Firewood Nothings nicer on a cold winter day than sitting in front of a roaring wood fire in the fireplace. When you bring that firewood indoors, you might be bringing bugs indoors, too. Heres what you need to know about insects in firewood and how to keep them from coming inside. What Kinds of Insects Live in Firewood? Firewood often houses beetles, both under the bark and inside the wood. When firewood contains beetle larvae, adults may emerge as long as two years after the wood was cut. Longhorned beetle larvae usually live under the bark, in irregular tunnels. Boring beetle larvae make winding tunnels loaded with sawdust-like frass. Bark and ambrosia beetles typically infest freshly cut wood. Dry firewood may attract carpenter bees, which nest in the wood. Horntail wasps lay their eggs in wood, where the larvae develop. Sometimes adult horntail wasps emerge from firewood when its brought indoors. You dont need to worry about them stinging or damaging your home, should one surprise you. If firewood is still damp or stored in contact with the ground, it may attract a number of other insects. Carpenter ants and termites, both social insects, may make their homes in a pile of firewood. Critters that migrate into the wood from the ground include sowbugs, millipedes, centipedes, pillbugs, springtails, and bark lice. Can These Insects Damage My Home? Few insects that live in firewood will cause damage to your home. The structural lumber in your homes walls is much too dry to sustain them. As long as you dont store firewood inside your home, you shouldnt worry about insects from firewood infesting your house. Avoid keeping firewood in a damp garage or basement, where structural wood might have enough moisture to attract some insects. If insects do come indoors with the wood, just use a vacuum to remove them. Do be careful about where you store your wood outdoors. If you place stacks of firewood right up against your house, you are asking for termite trouble. Also, be aware that if the firewood contains beetle larvae or adults, the beetles may emerge and head for the nearest trees- the ones in your yard. How to Keep (Most) Bugs out of Your Firewood The best thing you can do to avoid insect infestations in your firewood is to dry it quickly. The drier the wood, the less hospitable it is to most insects. Proper storage of firewood is key. Try to avoid harvesting wood when insects are most active, from April to October. By cutting down trees in winter months, you will lessen the risk of bringing home infested logs. Fresh cut logs invite insects to move in, so remove the wood from the forest as soon as possible. Cut wood into smaller logs before storing it. The more surfaces exposed to the air, the quicker the wood will cure. Firewood should be covered to keep out moisture. Ideally, wood should be raised off the ground, too. Keep some air space under the cover and under the pile to allow airflow and quicker drying. Never treat firewood with pesticides. The more common firewood insects, beetles, typically bore into the wood and wont be affected by surface treatments anyway. Burning logs that have been sprayed with chemicals is a health hazard and could expose you to toxic fumes. Stop the Spread of Invasive Insects Invasive insects, such as the Asian longhorned beetle and the emerald ash borer, can be transported to new areas in firewood. These pests threaten our native trees, and every precaution should be taken to contain them.   Always obtain your firewood locally. Firewood from other areas could harbor these invasive pests and has the potential to create a new infestation where you live or camp. Most experts recommend that no firewood be moved more than 50 miles from its origin. If you are planning a camping trip away from home, dont bring your own firewood with you. Purchase wood from a local source near the camping area.

Ethical Issues in Adoption Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Ethical Issues in Adoption - Essay Example The topic of adoption has sparked heated debate, especially in social, religious, and political forums. In such debates, people from various agencies have raised their concerns about the ethics of adoption. While the topic of adoption has gained wide acceptance across the globe, some quarters within the society still think that adoption is marred with ethical issues. Certainly, I agree that there are ethical issues in adoption just as Proops states in her article. In as much as opinions are divided whether adoption can offer the solution to marital problems, it is worth mentioning that the issue of adoption is ethically significant, especially in the contemporary world.Unlike two decades ago, the modern society has embraced adoption to the extent that some spouses opt not to bear their biological children. Most of these people claim that adoption offers a solution to barren couples and people who want to stay single. From this perspective, adoption appears to be right. Nonetheless, t he gay, bisexual, and transgender community, commonly known as the (LGBT), have taken adoption to a completely new level. Initially, adoption was meant to help less fortunate children and infertile parents. However, the question that rages today is whether to the gay community ought to adopt children. Nevertheless, another critical question is whether adopted children ought to live families where the parents are not straight or whether they ought to live with same-sex parents.

The Role of Railroad Companies, Farmers, and Cowboys in the Development

The 1880s proved to be a time of change for America. High unemployment rates and low wages in many cities forced many to look to new opportunities in cities and elsewhere. This included the newly expanded west. In the 1880s Kansas had three dominating groups- railroad companies, farmers, and cowboys. All three dealt with individual triumphs and struggles when developing the West and specifically Kansas in the later part of the 19th century. Railroads spent most of the 1880s concerned with previous legislation, farmers worried about land allotment and surviving on the Plains. Cowboys also worried about land allotment and surviving. The worries of the last two created some tension between them but in the end survival of one depended on the survival of the other. Insuring their place in history, the three groups together made the expansion of the West possible and forever changed the face of Kansas. The 1880s was a time of substantial change for Kansas and railroads, which were very important to the development of Kansas. As many historians say â€Å"rails didn’t build Kansas City, but they carried almost everything that did† (Worley 1). While most of the legislation that affected the railroads had taken place at some point prior to this time period, it was now coming full swing and affecting the settlers now. In May of 1854, the Kansas- Nebraska Act was passed. Although mostly known for repealing the Missouri Compromise it also gave â€Å"the railroads the right to build a railroad system from Chicago to the Pacific Coast† (Kansas- Nebraska Act 1). With this new access to land, railroad companies began building cross-country railroads. New settlers and merchants knew that railroads were the up and coming mode of transportation and a vit... ... The Funeral Mask of King Tutankhamen

Perhaps one of the most amazing finds in Egyptian archeology is the tomb of King Tutankhamen. Howard Carter, the archaeologist whose subsequent death fueled speculation of the actuality of the mummy’s curse, discovered it in 1923 (â€Å"Tutankhamun,† par. 2). Most well known because it was largely intact at the time of its opening, the site gives modern viewers a rare insight into the life and death of a pharaoh. Today, the tomb remains shrouded in fascination as people all over the world visit displays of the artifacts retrieved from the crypt. According to the National Gallery of Art, archaeologists retrieved fifty-five items from the site, and among the items, King Tutankhamen’s Funeral Mask is possibly the most recognized (par. 1). It is also the most stunning example of Egyptian art recovered from the tomb. The mask of King Tutankhamen, better known as King Tut, is a large headpiece with the face of the young king, worn over the head and shoulders of the deceased. The entire mask is made of solid gold with inlaid blue glass and stones that create horizontal lines along the right and left sides of the head, down to the shoulders. This blue and gold striped headdress, also known as a â€Å"nemes,† which is a â€Å"royal head cloth† to be worn only by the ancient kings (â€Å"Death Mask,† cap. 1). On the forehead portion of the nemes are two small statuettes, one of a vulture and another of a cobra. According to experts, the â€Å"vulture, Nekhbet, and the cobra, Wadjet, protected the pharaoh† (â€Å"Death Mask,† par 1). On the back, the lines of the nemes converge at the bottom, in the center. The piece spares no detail, including the eyeliner worn by the ancient king. As a piece of Egyptian art, the Funeral Mask shows masterful use of the elements of design. The use of color is simply exquisite. Blue, gold, red and black, which comprise the piece, are still colors representative of royalty today. The use of line and space on the sides and collar create the illusion that the young king was large and imposing. In addition, the level of symmetry and balance in the piece is textbook. However, perhaps the most overtly powerful element in the piece is the use of symbols. Iconography and symbols are key to understanding the artists and the subject. The shape of this mask itself is reminiscent of the cobra, ostensibly representative of his power and fierceness. Also, the lines along the sides of the nemes seem to reflect the image of sunrays. In fact, it appears as if the rays of the sun were radiating from the king’s face. The sun god did play a large role in ancient Egyptian religion, but it is also possible that this represents the artists’ love of their young pharaoh. The most obvious symbols on the mask are of the cobra and vulture. Other than their use for King Tut’s protection, they may also represent his adherence to the old religions. According to Britannica Encyclopedia, â€Å"†¦serpent, vulture, and sphinx are all motif symbols tied up with such religious cults as the cult of the pharaohs and the gods and the cult of the dead† (par. 2). Considering the animals’ religious affiliation, and the fact that Tutankhamen spent his short reign reestablishing the various god religions of the past, one must speculate as to the   animals’ religious significance as well (â€Å"Tutankhamun,† par. 5). Perhaps these two particular animals were representatives of the gods that the pharaoh worshiped. Above all, these artists give the impression of adoration for King Tutankhamen in the medium chosen. The entire work is comprised of precious metals and stones that are historically synonymous with wealth and power. Goldsmiths spent a great deal of time refining and molding the metal, while small stones were cut and polished by hand to fit together almost seamlessly in the piece. Today, not only would the piece be expensive to recreate, it would also be somewhat laborious. Even with the use of modern tools, the work would be tedious at best. While it must have been somewhat difficult to achieve this level of work, without these elements the image of their king would have been somewhat dimmed. Although the Funeral Mask would have been exquisite even in clay, ancient craftsmen used materials fit for a pharaoh. Furthermore, ancient artisans obviously put a great deal of care into making their pharaoh’s mask a true representation of the ruler. It appears that their hope was to represent the king accurately and powerfully in the afterlife. Although their belief was that Tutankhamen would carry all the elements of his tomb into the underworld, they fitted him perfectly for presentation to an audience thousands of years later with all the riches one would expect to accompany such a powerful man as pharaoh of ancient Egypt. Even today, the Funeral Mask awes visitors with its royal visage. While some of the elements, such as facial features, seem crude on the surface and lacking realism, they are perfect in their simplicity. Thousands of years later, the artistry of the mask is virtually unmatched. Modern artists and goldsmiths would find the exact recreation of the mask difficult, if not improbable. When combined with the use of color, line, and symbols used by the ancient Egyptians, the mask is perfect. Twenty-first century artisans could not complete such an important task more appropriately. When given the commission of designing a similar piece, with the originality of this one, most artists would fail to find such a faultless balance of elements and design, which makes King Tutankhamen’s Funeral Mask the most superb piece of ancient Egyptian artwork found in the tomb, and perhaps even the world. The law is aimed at protecting illegal access to a computer system or exceeding authorized access. It protects access to and mishandling of or misusing protected information ending up in causing harm and or monetary loss to the victim of such activities. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "International Money Laundering Abatement Finance Essay" essay for you Create order Congress amended the act in 1986 to include intentional access and steeling something of value (Adams 1996). As the scenario has put it clearly, the criminal was either using an account on the banks computer system legally assigned i.e. the user was granted the right to use the computer as an employee but decided to misuse the privileges accorded her by the Bank by involving herself in a criminal activity. The criminal could also have hacked into the banks computer network illegally. Whichever the case, the activities are addressed in the law of computer Fraud act. The criminal had access to valuable information about the companies that were affected. Such information is classified information and therefore accessing the information and using it for obtaining monetary benefit while causing distress to the bank and its customers is a federal crime. Unauthorized cases have been prosecuted as in the case of Andrew Auernheimer who was convicted of identity theft after he illegally gai ned access to ATT computer system and stole customer emails and later claimed the responsibility (Vogel 2013). In the current scenario, the Computer Fraud Act of 1986 applies because the crime was committed while someone had access to the banks computer system. International money laundering abatement and anti-terrorist financing act of 2001 The legislation is covered as a section of the Patriot act of 2001. It addresses the money laundering crime. The law is aimed at protecting terrorist funding using United States Financial system or anonymously move funds obtained from or destined for illegal activities (Murphy 2001). Financial institutions are the main targets of international criminal rings who defraud individuals or businesses to fund other criminal activities. Such groups work with insiders in the banking systems to create and run anonymous accounts which are used to hind such funds as described. Since the criminal involved are moving money from the victim accounts to other banks in other states, it is a step of layering (Murphy,2001) a method used by criminals to cover their steps after obtaining stolen money drug trafficking money or other forms of dirty money. The money is hidden in different individual accounts and the criminal later deposit money from these activities to the banking system in other count ries or put it to investment that cannot be easily traced (Murphy, 2001). In our scenario money is being moved from a bank in Georgia to other banks in different states. The money is then sent out to banks located in other countries. This means it is not a one person crime but rather many people are involved. By transferring funds from one bank or multiple banks in the United States to international Banks the patriot Act becomes applicable. Discuss how VL Bank will work within the parameters of appropriate legal jurisdiction with specific bodies of law enforcement to resolve the situation. This case needs proper approach and preparation to investigate. Since the matter has already been handed over to business client lawyers, it touches other institution and it runs across state line it is not a case that the bank can investigate internally. The Bank need to work with Federal Agencies with jurisdiction over the State of Georgia and beyond and can go after the accounts in Bank A,B and C which are located indifferent geographical locations. Our main aim is to get to the root of the fraud within the Banks in the United States. The following agencies will work with VL Bank. Team Formation The lawyers of VL bank will work as the legal guides who will lead in forming the investigation team due to legal issues that the case involves. Thy have the knowledge of who has legal jurisdiction of what the investigation may involve and also the regulations guiding monetary fraud and cybercrimes. The lawyer will involve the following agencies and experts. United States Secret Services This is the agency mandated by the department of justice to protect the United States banking financial system. Through its Electronic Crime Task Force the Secret Services is capable of investigating Cybercrimes within and out of the US. The foreign banks may be pressured to cooperate with the request from the secret services due to the countries being members of anti-money laundering partnership NB to be verified. FBI The FBI is the main investigative agency of the United States department of justice. The company will need to acquire the clearance to investigate it employees within the shortest time possible before the suspects interfere with evidence of their activities in the computer system. The company wills under the guidance of the FBI agent arrest the computer of the manager who has access to the business account access and the computers for any other employee who may be found to be a suspect. These are the initial suspects of the crime until they have been cleared after the investigation is complete. The computer forensic experts will also test the system for possible hacking through web based intrusions to the bank computer system. Working with the two agencies, the investigation team will set the guidelines for the investigation. They will define the type of expertise needed to effectively conduct internal and external investigation. The following experts will be involved in the inv estigation. Computer forensic experts Using technology, the computer forensic experts will analyze the computer identified within the Bank as suspects. The CISO will coordinate access to the network resources and the infrastructure for analysis. Working with both agencies Network Analysis experts will analyses the intrusions in the banks network. They will try to figure out how the Bank computer system was compro mised and whether the compromise was within the bank or outside. These engineers will look into the origin of the any hacking activities and try to gather credible information that may eliminate suspicion from banks employees. Forensic Accountants Experts These are the people the Bank will need to evaluate the financial activities within the affected accounts. Their work is to investigate the way the accounts were operating and who had access. They will audit the genuine accounts and figure out whether the loss reported is the authentic. Evidence gathering Having defined the team of lead agencies and experts, the bank will take the next step of evidence gathering. The agents will lead in retrieving computers, storage disks and any paper trail from the company that may lead to evidence of fraudulent activities. As indicated in the instructions of this task, I am assuming the manager who has information the companies login to the affected accounts is a suspect. In the effort of clearing him or pinning him to the crime, we have to investigate his computer, his system account, and his department employees and audit their system accounts. This will require taking the computers, retrievable storage disks and any paper train that may bear important information for these investigations The FBI agents will be in charge of conducting interviews on the employees. This will be done per the logs obtained in the system that point to who accessed the accounts for the period of their existence and what activities were carried during such access. The FBI will aid the investigation of the secret services as the follow the money trail to Bank A, B, and C and if possible the offshore banks depending on affiliation with any local banks or international cooperation. After the findings, the Agencies will gather their findings and generate a report. Copies will be held by the agencies and the top management of VL Bank will be handed the report. The report will guide the bank management in decision making to what will be the next action Discuss legal considerations for preparing the digital evidence VL Bank will need to provide law enforcement and attorneys. In the United States, there are regulations that restrict the way, level and activities investigators must adhere to or the victim company may find itself in legal trouble. In its effort to investigate the computer and financial issue in the current situation VL Bank must make sure it protects itself from effects of crossing the legal lines as discussed below. Privacy invasion. VL Bank has to consider the privacy Act as a limitation to what information can be accessed and shared during the investigation. The investigation includes access to the Banks computer network. The network holds so much information in the customer database. There is a possibility that information of non-affected account holders may be accessed while the investigation is going on. This can be a problem if the information accessed leaks out. The account owners may sue the bank for information leak and this can result to heavy penalties against the bank. Noting also that the internal investigation involves other companies information being accessed, the bank must control what information goes to the investigators and for how long they can keep such information. Such information includes; Financial, Management, Tax ID and any other information the Bank requires while accounts are opened. Authenticity of evidence and preservation Under the privacy Act, the Bank investigation must maintain integrity of the data accessed. The information must be maintained as authentic evidence and the source maintained in the same authentic state it was received. The concern here then is maintaining customer information and data in the state it was received. The customer according to the privacy Act must request changes in writing. Therefore any accidental changes may result to bleach of authenticity. The suspects are also covered under the same regulations and whatever part of their personal information retrieved from their offices during search has to be maintained. So the investigators have to operate within the boundaries of these regulations. Privileged or proprietary information There is a possibility of the items being investigated to contain privileged or proprietary information. This type of information could cause the bank to enter into legal issues with the companies affected by the cybercrime in question. The Economic Espionage Act of 1996(Cave 2007) covers sharing or access to trade secrets. This type of information include Financial, business engineering information and other information a company may keep as secret. In the case of the current investigation there is a possibility of such information being accessed by the investigators the legal issue would arise if any of it leaks the point at which VL Bank may suffer heavy financial penalties. This is where during evidence gathering the investigative team needs to have documentation of the chain of custody Explain what coordination should take place between the CISO and VL Banks lawyer. There are important stages that the investigation will have to go through. As indicated previously, the investigation team has to be formed and put in place. The investigation team comprises law and non-law enforcement individual. Here there a need to control information flow and access. There are legal considerations the Bank during the investigation. There are requests that must be made to other companies and banks. Most of these aspects have legal implications that need the coordination of the Bank Lawyer. The lawyer needs to work with the CISO during team creation. He needs to get information on the security bleach and a theory of how it could have happened. This information would help the Lawyer determine the type of investigation and who should conduct it. Noting that the legal experts may not necessarily understand the technological aspects of the crime, the CISO should be able to make it as easy as possible for the Lawyer to understand that aspect to help the Lawyer dete rmine the right approach to the investigation. Considering there are Legal communications to be made between the Bank, the clients and other Banks, the lawyer will coordinate such communications and verify that such communications are within the best interest of VL Bank where Legal issues may be touchà ©. He will communicate with lawyers hired by the other Farms on behalf of VL Bank. Here the lawyer will advise the CISO what could fall behind information shared and how the CISO need to minimize information sharing without jeopardizing the whole investigation or even turning tables against the VL Bank. This whole case revolves around various criminal and civil laws. In that case, the lawyer would offer Legal oversight over the whole operation. The Lawyer will oversee cooperation of the Bank employees. He will make them understand the need for the investigation and what their responsibilities and cooperation mean for a smooth ending. The Lawyer will also coordinate the investig ators be making sure they are contained within the Legal boundaries of any banking, cyber and or Banking regulations. During the evidence gathering stage of the investigation the CISO will coordinate acquisition of computers and digital storage. It is the role of the CISO to make request through the IT management for computers and storage and any paper trail to be made available without data modification before it is too late. The CISO will coordinate a team equal to suspect computers so all will be arrested for investigation at the same time and within a short time of commencing investigation. The CISO is the link between the Bank and the investigation team as far as Digital information is concerned. The CISO should weigh all aspects of access request to digital information to make sure that accesses is only granted to what is beneficial to the investigation without also crossing the legal lines or exposing VL Bank to unnecessary speculation from the investigators. 2.
